The government is blocking nationwide for a week starting next Monday as the deadly coronavirus infection situation continues to deteriorate. Cabinet Secretary Khandaker Anwarul Islam sat down in an emergency meeting to decide the timing of the shutdown and the strategy for its implementation.
The meeting began at 4 pm on Friday, Mahmud Ibn Qasim, private secretary to the cabinet secretary, told Jugantar.
Chief Secretary of the Prime Minister’s Office at the zoom meeting chaired by the Cabinet Secretary. Senior secretaries and secretaries from all ministries and departments participated, including Ahmed Kaikaus.
The meeting was also attended by representatives of the three forces, the Inspector General of Police, the Director General of the BGB, the Director General of Ansar and the heads of four intelligence agencies.
Early in the morning, Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said that the announcement of a ‘shutdown’ to deal with the epidemic was happening again. He said the government had decided to lock down the country for a week starting Monday due to an increase in coronavirus infections.
On the other hand, the Minister of State for Public Administration, Farhad Hossain, said that work is being done to give simultaneous closure throughout the country from Monday or Tuesday keeping the factories open. He also said that a notification about it can be issued at night.
