The verdict of 14 minors charged in the highly disputed murder case of Barguna Rifat Sharif will be announced on Tuesday. After the testimony of 84 witnesses and the presentation of arguments by the lawyers of both parties, the Barguna Juvenile Court set the sentencing date of the case on October 14, after a total of 63 business days. Of these 14 defendants, seven have testified in court under article 164.
Rifat Sharif’s father, A. was killed with this verdict. Halim Dulal Sharif said: “We are satisfied with the exemplary verdict given in the case of adult defendants. We believe that the truly guilty will receive exemplary punishment and the innocent will also be acquitted in this verdict.
PP Mostafizur Rahman Babul, Barguna Women’s and Children’s Court, said: “Of the 65 witnesses in this case, 84 have taken testimony. I firmly believe that the evidence we have presented to the court will be an exemplary punishment for the accused.
By the way, Rifat Sharif was beaten to death in front of Barguna Government College on the morning of June 26 last year. Video of the killings spread through social media, sparking a storm of criticism across the country. Rifat Sharif died at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital that afternoon while undergoing treatment.
Later, on the afternoon of September 1 of last year, the police presented two records in the Barguna Court of First Instance, dividing the accused into two groups, adults and minors. Among them, 10 are juvenile offenders and 14 are minors. At the same time, Nayan Bond, the number one defendant in the Rifat murder case, was killed in a shooting and was acquitted.
