The wife of an expat has been gang-raped while visiting her boyfriend and receiving gifts at Kapasia in Gazipur. After the rape, the rapists arrested the housewife and demanded a ransom. Police arrested six youths involved in the incident on Friday.
Those arrested are Roman Bepari, 20, son of Mostafa Bepari from the Targaon area of Kapasia upazila in Gazipur, Jobayer Bepari, 21, son of Mohsin Bepari from the same area, Mostarin Sardar, 21, son of Mofiz Sardar , Sahabul Hossain Sakib, 22, son of Uhsan Bepari of the same. Masum Sheikh, 21, son of the late Safur Uddin from Boal Tech area, Rakib Hossain, 20, son of Shamsul Haque Bhuiyan from the same area, and Mahfuzul Haque, 20, son of Badal Moral.
Kapasia Police Station Inspector (investigation) Afzal Hossain said Sakhawat Hossain, son of Ain Uddin from the Charkham area of Kapasia Upazila in Gazipur, met with a housewife from the Bir Ahmadpur area of the police station from Manohardi in Narsingdi district on his mobile phone about four months ago.
The woman, the wife of a Qatari expatriate, is the mother of a son. A love story developed between them based on their identity. On December 16, the housewife went to visit her father’s house in the Nabipur area of Kapasia upazila. The next day (Thursday), Sakhawat called her from home in the afternoon to give her a mobile phone as a gift and to meet her for the first time. Sakhawat’s other friends saw the matter. When they arrived at the scene, the raped woman tried to escape. At that time, the young men arrested her and raped her again. The incident took place around 8 p.m. Later, the youths detained the gang-raped housewife and demanded a ransom of 50,000 taka from her mother and threatened to kill her. They also give a development number to pay the ransom money.
Kapasia OC Alam Chand Police Station said the victim’s mother filed a complaint with the police station. Police confirmed the location by tracking the development number using sophisticated technology. Later in the evening, the police raided and rescued the victim from the scene and arrested the rapist Sahabul and Hossain. Subsequently, based on the information of the detainees, 6 more people were arrested on Friday for conducting raids in different places. However, the police were unable to arrest Sakhawat.
The detainees were sent to jail through court on Friday afternoon. They have confessed to the police that they were involved in the rape.
