Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has instructed government officials and employees not to rent houses if they are not in assigned government houses. He said that those in whose name the government house will be assigned must remain in that house. He gave this instruction while approving new development projects from Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology.
The project was approved at a meeting of the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday (December 22). The meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. The Prime Minister joined the meeting held at NEC Bhaban in Sher-e-Bangla Nagar via video conference from Ganobhaban.
Asadul Islam, chief secretary of the planning department in the NEC conference room at the end of ECNEC, said that many schools or places often do not have officials or teachers in government units. As a result, these houses are empty day after day. The reason for not being there is that the house rental subsidy has also increased due to the increase in salary. They live out of rented houses at a lower price than the rent charged by the government premises. That is why the Prime Minister has given this instruction.
Asadul Islam further said that in case of change in the tariff schedule, the approval of the Ministry of Finance must be obtained. The Ministry of Planning will study the matter. Also, even if universities are autonomous, they must have accountability and responsibility. In addition, the Prime Minister has ordered to prepare a master plan for universities so that universities cannot build buildings everywhere. He directed to guarantee the quality of the project execution. In addition, the Prime Minister has called for a master plan for each upazila and to use that water where it is possible to obtain water from surface sources.
He added that gas meters would have to be installed across the country in phases. The meters must be installed especially in the industrial sector. This is because the use of gas is more in industries than in homes.
