According to police sources, SI Rabiul received a call and arrived there in a white uniform with an ASI Anup police team and Inspector Aftab in handcuffs without asking anything.

Police sources and eyewitnesses said that when the handcuffs began to fall, police officer Aftab asked for his identity and introduced himself as an agent of the Counter-Terrorism Unit. As soon as he was presented, SI Rabiul punched him in the nose and put the other handcuffs on Hasan’s hand.

Later, after seeing his identity card and his wireless device, he opened the handcuffs and took him to the police station by order of his superiors.

According to the police and investigation sources, senior CMP officers went to the police station immediately after the incident and began the investigation. During the nightly investigation, police officers examined CCTV footage, call logs, and other matters.

Investigators confirmed that Inspector Aftab was at his home at the time of the robbery. And Hasan was at his house in Patia upazila.

Suspicious behavior of the plaintiff

Senior police officials said Nur Mohammad, the perpetrator of the robbery, was giving information to the police from time to time. Nur Mohammad’s house is in Chittagong’s Hathazari upazila. He runs a store called New Mobile Touch at Rezwan Market on Tamakumandi Lane, Riazuddin Bazar.

Describing the incident, he told police that he got on the bus with a tiffin and a bag, but investigators did not see any tiffin in his hand on CCTV footage of the market that day. He also told police once that he got on bus number three and again got on bus number two.

Neither he nor his son reported the incident to any of the leaders of the market’s business association or to any of the traders in the area.

The reporter went to his store for two days to speak with the plaintiff in detail, but he refused to speak because he was a journalist.

After beating the inspector, he filed a kidnapping case at the Kotwali Police Station on the 27th accusing two unidentified persons.

Mohammad Mohsin, the officer in charge of the Kotwali Police Station, declined to comment on the incident. He also avoided white robes and beatings in the market.

When asked about the incident, SI Rabiul told the Daily Star, “I didn’t recognize the sir.”

CMP Commissioner Saleh Mohammad Tanvir told the Daily Star: “We are investigating the matter immediately after the incident. As the police snatched the plaintiff’s indictment, we analyzed the CCTV footage of Aftab’s home and other matters and confirmed that Aftab was not there at the time of the robbery incident.

“ We have collected CCTV footage from various locations after receiving allegations of looting, but so far nothing related to looting has been found. However, we are still investigating, ”said the CMP commissioner.

By the way, Inspector Aftab is known as a surveillance officer in the CMP and works in the bomb disposal unit. It has been successful in investigating important cases, including the crackdown on militancy.
