The police are carrying out an operation to catch Anwar Hossain Rana alias Kala and his wife, Acting Secretary General of the much-talked about Bogra Nandigram Upazila Awami League and a member of the district council.

Her mother-in-law, Delwara Begum, filed a complaint with the Sadar police station on Monday night alleging that she had cheated hundreds of millions of rupees by holding her hostage to firearms. Five people, including Anwar Hossain Rana and his wife, were charged in the case.

The defendants are Awami League leader Anwar Hossain Rana alias Kala, his wife Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara, Sarif Bidi Factory Manager Cum-Cashier Nazrul Islam, Sarif CNG Limited Manager Hafizar Rahman and Delwara-Sheikh Sharif Uddin Saharan Uddin Market Supermarket.

Delwara Begum, wife of the late Sheikh Sarif Uddin of Katnarpara in Bogra city, mentioned in the affidavit that her son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana and daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara have been living in their home for the past five years due to their physical illness. Due to his illness and at their suggestion, the son-in-law was given the responsibility of conducting and orally supervising various businesses.

Subsequently, Nazrul Islam, Cam-Cashier, Manager of Sarif Bidi Factory, Hafizar Rahman, Manager of Sarif CNG Limited and Touhidul Islam, Manager of Delwara-Sheikh Sharif Uddin Super Market and Runner’s Assistant took refuge in fraud, deception and corruption .

They signed stamps, bank checks, FDR and business documents in front of sharp weapons. Later, by making false documents, from June 1, 2015 to September 21, 2020, he broke the bank’s FDR and embezzled Tk 50 crore. In addition, it has embezzled another Rs 50 crore of Tk from companies and banks.

He also mentioned that the main defendant Anwar Hossain Rana prohibited them from filtering firearms. He kept it a secret for so long due to death threats. On September 21, son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana and his daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara left the house with various pieces of furniture.

The leader of the Awami League, Rana, claimed that his brothers and sisters-in-law had taken his mother-in-law hostage and forced her to present a false case to the police.

Sadar Police Station OC Humayun Kabir said the case was registered on Monday night. Now the operation is underway to arrest the accused.
