Attempts have been made to launch cyber attacks against several major governments and non-governmental organizations in the United States. The US Department of Energy also confirmed the cyberattack on Thursday after concerns were raised in various quarters about the attacks. The attacker struck shortly after noon in front of a US military base.
According to the BBC, the US Department of Energy is in charge of managing the country’s nuclear arsenal. As a result, these cyberattacks pose a serious threat to the security of nuclear weapons. The Department of Energy has said that no concessions will be made on the safety of nuclear weapons.
Before the Department of Energy’s confession, tech giant Microsoft said malicious software had been found on its systems. Evidence has emerged that more than 40 of its clients were targeted by cyberattacks. That list includes government institutions, research institutes, private institutions, and institutes of technology.
Eighty percent of these organizations are located in the United States. The rest are based in Canada, Mexico, Belgium, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel and the United Arab Emirates.
Many suspect that the Russian government is behind the attacks. But the country has denied it. Many major institutions, including the US Department of Finance and Commerce, were targeted by cyberattacks. The attempts of these great attacks lasted a month. However, these attacks have not been published for that long. Last Sunday, for the first time, US government officials acknowledged the attack. Current President Donald Trump has yet to comment on the large-scale cyber attack.
