The Haradhan Poddar and Kaushik Bain poultry farms in Bairagitol village at the Sahapur junction of Gopalganj Sadar upazila shot down 6 sheds and 6 food storage houses and blew up the surrounding paddy fields. 12 thousand golden hens died on the farm. The chickens that were supposed to be sold the next day. In total, the farm has suffered a loss of at least Rs 30 lakh.
Farmers Haradhan Poddar and Kaushik Bain said that the two rented 32 bighas of land in the town of Bairagitol in our area with a contract of Tk 300,000 a year and built six sheds at a cost of Tk 300,000 each and six food houses to a cost of Tk 1.5 million each. I have been doing poultry and fish business here for three years. This great farm was decorated with many hopes and dreams.
They said that their dream was to be self-sufficient, to live well with their families and to establish themselves in society by teaching boys and girls to read and write. But last Saturday (April 9) at night, the 10-minute Kalavaishakhi storm shattered that dream. We have borrowed a lot of money from the bank. How do I pay it? I am concerned about how to set up this farm again. We demand that the government support us to save the poultry industry.
Gopalganj Sadar Upazila Animal Resources Officer. Govinda Chandra Sardar said: “I have visited the farm. 7 farm sheds have been blown up, 6 houses to store food. Around 12,000 chickens have died. They have lost at least Rs 30 lakh. I have reported the matter to the higher authorities. I will try to support the affected farmers.
