Due to the corona epidemic, it was not possible to perform the HSC and equivalent exams in 2020. The HSC results have been published based on the results of the two previous exams. The Ministry of Education is under a lot of pressure with this “automatic pass”. Therefore, the ministry is not willing to grant an “automatic pass” on SSC and HSC this year. Instead, a very short syllabus has been published. The alternative to the auto pass is that almost everyone will pass this simple study program.
According to sources, the Ministry of Education has plans to hold SSC exams in June and HSC exams in July-August. As a result, it is planned to have 60 business days in SSC and a maximum of 60 business days in HSC with the opening of the educational institution in March.
It is known that in the first phase, the Dhaka Board of Education published a short SSC syllabus on January 25th. The National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) has released the SSC and HSC syllabus in phase two on February 4 after students filed objections.
Concerned people say that between 20 and 30 percent were omitted from the syllabus published in the first phase. But this time the syllabus has been developed by selecting between 30 and 35 percent of chapters in each subject. This time around, the syllabus has been organized in such a way that it is possible for a student to pass with only a minimum of reading.
Former Director of the Institute of Education and Research at Dhaka University. Siddiqur Rahman told Kaler Kantha: “Today’s students are tomorrow’s citizens. So if they don’t do everything they are supposed to accomplish, they will be lost. We as a nation will also suffer. Reducing the syllabus by two-thirds is very scary. In my opinion, this is not a good decision.
This member of NCTB’s Curriculum Formulation Committee further said: ‘The curriculum we made included the needs of the country, international needs, moral education, higher education, everything. The part that has now been omitted may be necessary in higher education. Because no university or medical school would want to be a weak engineer or doctor. If you can’t keep up, someone will drop out. Someone will go north training. However, it is safe to say that students will stumble in higher education.
As can be seen from the short CSS syllabus, a total of seven questions need to be answered in the first Bengali article. A total of 9 verses, novels and plays have been taught in the short syllabus. The second letter contains six chapters. The eight-chapter agenda for the first English letter and the agenda for the second letter have also been made very short. There have been some changes in the structure of the English question. Of these, various parts have been omitted, including the narration and the syntax of the English grammar. Also, you don’t need to write essays in English. In the abbreviated syllabus, the division of questions and the numerical structure will be correct in all subjects. That is, the questionnaire will be prepared from the agenda that has been developed.
Other CSS topics include Accounting, Finance and Banking and Business in six chapters; Five in physics; Four chapters each in Biology and Chemistry; Five in politics; Seven in history; Six in geography; Three in information and communications technology; Three in agricultural education; Four in higher mathematics; Five on Islam and moral education; There are five chapters in math and six in science. The HSC and the equivalent short syllabus have almost the same chapter.
NCTB Member (Curriculum) Professor. Mashiuzzaman told Kaler Kantha, “The essential learning outcomes of the SSC and HSC have been maintained. Although it is easy for students to pass, there will be some losses. The next class will have to make arrangements to make up for this loss. However, those who will take the SSC test, but have read the entire ninth grade. From that point of view, even if the syllabus is short, it shouldn’t be a big deal.
