Commander (retired) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan was killed at a police checkpoint on Marine Drive, Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar. While filming at Cox’s Bazar to make a travel documentary for the YouTube channel, Sinha learned of the “illegal” activities of the Teknaf OC Pradeep Kumar Das Police Station. He also wants a video interview from OC Pradeep. For all these reasons, Pradeep took aim at Sinha. The murder shot was made while he was sitting in the Teknaf police station. The plan was implemented with the help of Liaquat Ali, inspector in charge of the Baharchhara camp, three sources, and SI Nandadulal. For this they followed Sinha for a long time. After the assassination at the checkpoint, 15 people led by OC Pradeep participated directly and indirectly to cover up the incident.

This information has emerged in the murder investigation. Three days after the incident, the RAB conducted a four-month, 10-day investigation and filed a charge sheet with Cox’s Bazar Chief Judge Tamanna Farah’s court on Sunday. 12 members of the police, including OC Pradeep, and 15 people, including three sources, have been charged. RAB investigators claimed that the investigation report had revealed the true secret of Sinha’s murder, which had caused a stir at home and abroad. They say OC Pradeep carried out the planned murder out of fear that his yaba trade would be closed and Sinha could report the incident to higher authorities. The police confiscated Sinha’s laptop after the murder. However, some sensitive tests of that laptop have been subtly destroyed.

Meanwhile, in three cases brought by the police against Sinha’s colleagues Shipra Debnath and Shahedul Islam Sifat, the RAB investigating officer presented the final report to the court last Thursday. The acquittal of the two has been requested because there is no evidence against them.

RAB Deputy Superintendent of Police Khairul Islam filed the charge sheet in court in Cox’s Bazar around 10:30 am yesterday. The defendants are Liaquat Ali, the then inspector in charge of the Baharchhara police post, Pradeep Kumar Das, the OC looted from the Teknaf police station, Rubel Sharma, the bodyguard, Nandadulal Rakshit, SI from the police station from Teknaf, Agent Safanur Karim, Kamal Hossain, MB Rajib, Abdullah, Nurul Amin, Nizamuddin and Ayaz Uddin from Marishbunia village in the Baharchhara junction of Teknaf are witnesses in the police case.

At a press conference held at the Media Center at Karwan Bazar in Dhaka at noon, RAB Law and Media Branch Director Lt. Colonel Ashiq Billah said: ‘The investigating officer charged 15 people on this 26-page charge sheet, including 73 witnesses. Of the 15 defendants, nine were police officers fired from Teknaf police station, three were dismissed APBN members and three were civilians. 14 out of 15 people are in jail. There is a fugitive. Twelve of the 14 inmates have pleaded guilty in court. Pradeep Kumar Das and Constable Rubel Sharma did not testify.

Ashiq Billah further said: “The investigating officer on the case has made a point very clearly. Witnesses to the fact, the evidence, has objectively confirmed through the statements of the accused that it was a premeditated murder. The mastermind behind the murder was the then CO of Teknaf Police Station, Pradeep Kumar Das. It has been essential to cover up the murders and divert them to other sectors. Other defendants Liaquat Ali, Nurul Amin, police sources Muhammad Ayaz and Mohammad Nizamuddin participated in the direct conspiracy of Pradeep Kumar Das. Another policeman, Nandadulal, again helped Liaquat Ali. Furthermore, the murders were carried out with the help of three members of APBN. Later, some more police from the outpost participated in confirming Sinha’s death and the incident.

The lieutenant praised the investigator on the case. Colonel Ashiq Billah said: “Assistant Superintendent of Police Khairul Islam has 32 years of work experience in the police force and is investigating many important cases. He presented the investigation report of this case very efficiently and without any influence.

So the way the murder

RAB spokesman Ashiq Billah said that since July 6, Major (Retired) Sinha Mohammad Rashed Khan, Shipra Debnath, Shahedul Islam Sifat and Rupati have stayed at the Nilima Resort on Marine Drive. They went to Teknaf to make a documentary video on the YouTube channel. In a moment, Rupati returned. During their stay there, they developed a cordial relationship with the local population. People informed Sinha about OC Pradeep’s misdeeds. Sinha may know a lot about OC Pradeep’s yaba business. Sinha went to OC Pradeep with the camera and wanted to know. OC Pradeep later got to know the details about them. He directly threatened them to leave Teknaf instead of making a statement. If not, it will be destroyed.

Lieutenant Colonel Ashiq Billah said: “This incident occurred when Sinha learned of the arbitrariness of OC Pradeep and the yaba trade. There are two main reasons that OC Pradeep caused the incident. One is their fear of closing the yaba trade. The other is that Sinha should not know this information to higher authorities. Despite the threats, when Major Sinha Rashed continued to investigate the work of his YouTube channel and Yaba, others, including Inspector Liaquat and OC Pradeep, planned the incident.

Investigative sources said OC Pradeep told his subordinates: “The video party has to be removed from here, at any cost.” Since then, Sinha has been under the surveillance of Inspector Liaquat and SI Nandadulal. Following a ‘tree planting’ ceremony by law enforcement on the morning of July 31, OC Pradeep was informed that Major Sinha Rashed had gone to Shamlapur Hills in Teknaf in a private car. At the time, the inspector in charge of the Baharchhara camp, Liaquat Ali Sinha, was keeping an eye on the source. On his way from Teknaf to Cox’s Bazar at night, Sinha was shot and killed after getting out of his car in the name of the search at the Baharchhara Shamlapur police checkpoint.

Signs destroyed from Sinha’s laptop

Responding to a question from reporters, Ashiq Billah said: “The investigating officer mentioned in the charge sheet that police from the Teknaf Police Station raided the Nilima compound on the night of the incident. From there they recovered Sinha’s laptop. The laptop was first brought to the Teknaf police station. Evidence and witness statements attest that they destroyed the digital content on Sinha’s laptop at the police station. Ashiq Billah said: “There were some videos on the laptop that could put Pradeep and Liaquat in an existential crisis. We were able to recover many digital documents, but we were unable to recover those videos.

Departmental action recommendation against SP Masud

RAB officials said then-Cox’s Bazar district police superintendent ABM Masood was indifferent to OC Pradeep’s illegal activities even before the incident. He did not visit the scene after the incident. The investigation has revealed that Sinha Rashed had acted unprofessionally as a high-ranking police officer for various reasons, including failure to provide medical treatment. Departmental administrative actions against ABM Masud have also been recommended.

Shots even after death, boots hit in the face

According to RAB sources, the investigation report mentioned that Major Sinha exited the vehicle with his hands raised at the checkpoint with his identity. Later, Inspector Liaquat used obscene language. ‘I have seen many older people like you. Let’s watch the game this time, ‘he said and shot himself in the head. Major Sinha was shot and fell to the ground in a bloody state, but Inspector Liaquat fired again to confirm his death. After that, OC Pradeep appeared at the scene and confirmed the death of Major Sinha, who had been shot, by repeatedly kicking him in the face and body. Pradeep also tried to distort Sinha’s face with his boots. At that moment, the defendants chased away the witnesses and the people in the area by raising their weapons and threatening them.

Suspicion leads to persistence in the threat.

It is mentioned in the charge sheet that while recording Teknaf’s biography, Major Sinha obtained information about the unspeakable torture of innocent people in the name of OC Pradeep’s drug eradication. He tried to get more information from OC Pradeep, Inspector Liaquat, and their small forces. He wants to meet his colleague OC Pradeep and talk about it. Pradeep then threatened to leave Cox’s Bazar. If not, show fear of destruction. Even after this, he suspected that Major Sinha was gathering information about OC Pradeep’s misdeeds by going to different areas under the identity of an army officer. Pradeep believes that Sinha was secretly communicating with the families affected by him. If this information gets out, your work will suffer greatly. The CO then held a secret meeting with all sources in the area of their police station. Baharchhara also informed the inspector of the Liaquat research center. They had a secret meeting with Nurul Amin, Ayash and Nizam Uddin a few days before the incident.

Sinha along with three associates went to the Nilima Resort in Cox’s Bazar to film a documentary about a travel show on a YouTube channel called ‘Just Go’. When he was killed at the checkpoint on August 5, his sister Sharmin Shahriar Ferdous brought a murder case against nine people, including Pradeep Kumar Das. The investigation of the case was entrusted to the RAB. For the sake of the investigation, 18 policemen, including Liaquat Ali, in charge of the Baharchhara Research Center, were removed and later “suspended”. Apart from three locals, RAB arrested 14 people, including APBN and Pradeep’s bodyguards. The four-member investigative committee headed by Chittagong Additional Division Commissioner Mohammad Mizanur Rahman was formed on August 3 by the Department of Public Security of the Ministry of the Interior. On September 3, the investigation team questioned OC Pradeep. The report was presented to Interior Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal on September 6. The investigation committee has made 12 recommendations in the 80-page investigation report.
