Police arrested Abdus Sobahan, 65, for allegedly raping a fifth grader in Taltoli, Barguna. Police arrested him in a case brought up at the Taltoli police station on Thursday night. He was sent to jail through court on Friday.
According to the police and local sources, Abdus Sobahan Hawladar, from the Lalupara area in upazila, has been doing business with a grocery store in Fakirhat Bazar for a long time. Next to the market, a fifth-grade girl from the Idupara area came to her shop around 3.30pm on Monday. At that moment, businessman Abdus Sobhan called the girl, took her to a room behind the store and raped her. The girl’s mouth broke loose in a fight. Then a shopper named Shakil heard the boy’s screams. Sobahan threatened young Shakil not to tell anyone about the incident. She then tried to negotiate with the victim’s family more than once to cover up the incident.
When the incident in the area became known, Abdus Sobahan and his men beat Shakil on suspicion and wounded him on Thursday night. The wounded Shakil has been admitted to the Barguna Sadar Hospital.
Later on Thursday night, the boy’s father filed a rape case against Abdus Sobahan Hawladar at the Taltoli Police Station. The police arrested him at Fakirhat Bazar at night. He was sent to the Barguna jail through court today.
Taltoli Police Officer in Charge. Kamruzzaman Mia said on her mobile phone that a case of child rape had been registered at the police station. The accused elderly man has been arrested and sent to jail through the court. The raped girl was rescued and sent to the Barguna Sadar Hospital for a medical examination.
