Mayor of Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). Atiqul Islam told merchants that nothing can be done in the city without going beyond the law and politics.
He said this while inspecting the removal of illegal billboards, signs, shop signs, project signs, etc. at Banani 11 Road at 10am on Friday.
The mayor said that no matter what you do, you must get permission from the city corporation. Everything has laws, it has principles. But we see that no one cares about any kind of law, policy, who is putting up signs, shop signs, LED signs. Everybody says during the campaign that we don’t know. But when you get a business license, the size of the sign is also mentioned. If you make 30ft by 40ft sign with approval of 3ft by 4ft sign, if LED lights are installed there, it is invalid. Therefore, no one can do business in Dhaka City in violation of the law.
Atiqul Islam said: “Some time ago we removed a huge sign from an educational institution.” What will children learn when they discover that their school has posted signs illegally? This is the clinic that has illegally posted signs on the road, what treatment will they give you?
He said that the beauty of the city is being ruined as a result of putting up signs in this way. You can’t see the sky. Those who put up signs illegally think they have a lot of power. They are doing business, they are making money. However, no illegal sign can remain in the city.
The mayor said that during the campaign many people called me and asked, many people asked for time. Someone says, don’t break my sign. Some people tell me that they don’t get phone calls, I want to tell everyone. When the mobile court is underway, the eviction is underway, no one will call me. I won’t answer the phone.
He said that the eviction campaign is now being carried out in Gulshan, Banani and Pragati Sarani. Operations will take place in other areas of the DNCC next month. Therefore, the illegal sign removal campaigns will be carried out in all areas in phases.
Today, the eviction campaign was led by Motakabbir Ahmed, the regional executive officer and executive magistrate of Zone-7. Approximately 50 billboards, signs, etc. illegals were removed during this time. These posters and signs were later sold at auction for Rs 40 lakhs.
During the eviction campaign, among others, the general director of the DNCC. Abdullah Al Baki, Regional Executive Officer, Selim Reza, Region-3 was present.
