The convict received the full 429-page verdict stamp in the much-discussed Rifat murder case in Barguna on Saturday night. After receiving a copy of the verdict, Minni’s father, Mozammel Hossain Kishore, and her parents left for Dhaka on Saturday night to appeal to the high court.

On the court’s observation on pages 425-26 and 26 of the full verdict, it has been said: ‘It can be seen from the above discussion that the defendant Rifat Faraji, Rabbi Akon, Sifat, Tiktak Hridoy, Md. Hasan and Minni planned to beforehand carry out the same motive for the murder of the victim Rifat Sharif by carrying out the attack on the date, time and place of the incident and killing him. Section 34 is not a separate section that imposes punishment. It complements other sections that impose the main punishment for the crime. It states that if a person commits a criminal act in pursuit of their common purpose, each of them will be responsible for the crime in the same way that they would have been if they had committed the crime alone. Consequently, the defendants are equally responsible for the murder of Rifat Sharif, the victim in this case.

The observation further stated: “From the above discussion it is seen that the defendant Minni is the mastermind behind the plot of this case and because of him the unfortunate Rifat Sharif has been brutally murdered and his parents and son have been lost.” Unless he receives exemplary punishment, there is a danger that girls his age will get lost in his footsteps. Therefore, it is appropriate to recommend their exemplary punishment in this case.

The brutal killings in the Kopaiya case by the traditional Ramdao weapon in broad daylight have also defeated medieval barbarism. The other accused of the brutal murder are all young men. Thanks to information technology and social media, people of all ages, including young people, have witnessed creativity. In this situation, if they are not given exemplary punishment, there is a danger that the youth of the country will follow in their footsteps and go in the wrong direction. Therefore, its exemplary punishment should be recommended. In this situation, considering the seriousness of the crimes committed by the defendants and the general situation mentioned above, it was decided to pay a fine of Rs 302 and Rs 50,000 to each of them.

The verdict also establishes that if the convicts want to appeal, they must present it within 7 (seven) days after the order. Therefore, all the guardians of the five convicted persons, including Ayesha Siddique Minni, who was sentenced to death, have already left for the capital, Dhaka, with the signing of the verdict.

By the way, on the morning of June 26 last year, Rifat Sharif was hacked and injured by a gang of teenage ties in front of Barguna Government College. Rifat died at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital that afternoon while undergoing treatment. The next day, June 26, Rifat’s father, Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif, filed a murder case against five or six other people, and named 12 others. Sabbir Ahmed Nayan aka Nayan Bond, the main defendant in the case , died in a ‘shootout’ with police on the morning of July 2, six days after the incident.

After the investigation, on September 1 of last year, the Barguna Judicial Court of First Instance processed 24 people and presented two investigation complaints, dividing them into adults and minors. Of these, 10 are juvenile offenders and 14 are minors. He was acquitted on the charge sheet when Nayan Bond was killed in a shooting. The trial of the case began on January 1 of this year with the formation of charges in the District Court and Session of Barguna. Testimony against 10 accused adults began on January 8. The court completed testimony against the adult accused on February 25 by taking testimony from 8 witnesses in the case. Following arguments by both parties on September 16, the verdict of 10 adult defendants was set for September 30.
