Later that afternoon, Rifat died at Barisal Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. The next day, Rifat’s father, Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif, filed a murder case with the Barguna Sadar police station, mentioning the names of 12 people and 5 to 6 others. Minni became the main witness.

Later, the matter of Minni’s marital cabin with Nayan Bond, the mastermind of the murder, came to light. At the same time, news of Minni’s visit to Nayanbond’s home broke the day before the murder. At a press conference at the Barguna Press Club 18 days after Rifat’s murder, Sharif’s father, Abdul Halim Dulal Sharif, called Minni the mastermind of the murder and demanded his arrest.

The police brought Minni to the Barguna police line for questioning on the morning of July 17 last year, 19 days after Rifat’s death. Later that night, the police arrested Minni through a press conference. The following day, July 18, the police took Minni to the Barguna Judicial Court of First Instance and requested a seven-day pre-trial detention. The court granted Minni a five-day preventive detention.

On the third day of her five-day pre-trial detention, Minni testified under Section 164 in the Barguna Superior Court of Judicial Magistrates alleging her husband’s involvement in the murder. He was released on superior court bail on September 3 of last year after serving 49 consecutive days in jail. On the afternoon of September 1 last year, two days before Minni was released on bail, police filed a charge sheet against Minni, number seven, among the adult convicts. Minnie is mentioned on the charge sheet as the mastermind of the murder.
