New Delhi: The country’s largest automaker, Maruti Suzuki, said it had not sold a single car in April. The company stopped production last month due to a crash caused by the coronavirus pandemic, and sales stalled.
Presenting their latest production and sales data in April, Maruti said: “Maruti Suzuki India Limited had zero sales in the domestic market in April 2020.” The company added: “The reason is to stop production according to government shutdown guidelines. At the same time, the sales department was closed.
On the other hand, automakers have faced record financial losses due to the ongoing blockade since March 25. The Indian auto industry faces a revenue deficit of around Rs 1.00 trillion. Which is approximately .5 percent of GDP.

The Automobile Manufacturers Association claims that the Indian auto industry is losing Rs 2.3 billion rupees every day. As a result, there will be a deficit of Rs 28,000 crore in GST collection and states will also lose Rs 14,000 crore in fees.
