A murder case has been filed at Rangpur Kotwali Police Station in connection with the recovery of the bodies of two female students from their homes in the Madhya Ganeshpur area of Rangpur city. The police went to investigate and obtained information about her planned murder. Police arrested Mahfuzur Rahman Rifat on Saturday afternoon (September 19). During preliminary questioning, Mahfuz confessed to killing his two sisters, police said.
A press release signed by Uttam Prasad Pathak, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, DB, the officer in charge of the Metropolitan Police media department, informed Rifat of his arrest in the evening.
According to the press release, a general diary was kept at the police station after the bodies of the two sisters were recovered on Friday (No. 1000 of 9/18/20). On the other hand, Jannatul Mawa’s father, Mumimnul Islam, one of the two sisters killed on Saturday morning, presented a murder case (case no. 31 of 9/19/20) to the police station.
Mahfuzar Rahman alias Rifat was arrested for killing two sisters of Madhyababu Khan Mahalla in Rangpur city at 3:10 pm on Saturday. His father’s name is Emdadul Islam. Police said the defendant was intensively questioned and provided information about his involvement in the murder.
This is how they killed two sisters
According to several responsible sources in the police, Jannatul Mawa, daughter of Mominul Islam, is a ninth grade student and Sumaiya Akhter Meem, daughter of Moksedul Islam, has appeared for the SSC exam in the Madhya Ganeshpur area of the city. They are two cousins. They also lived in the same house. Jannatul Mawa’s parents went to their relatives’ home in Ulipur, Kurigram district. However, Meem’s parents were at home but also outside. Mahfuzar Rahman, boyfriend of Sumaiya Akhtar Meem, who was killed, called Rifat Meem around 12:30 pm and went to his home. They both stay in the meme room. Meanwhile, Meem’s cousin, Jannatul Mawa, suddenly entered Meem’s house and found Meem and her boyfriend Rifat in an abusive situation and threatened to tell their parents.
Enraged by the incident, Meem and her boyfriend Rifat entered Jannatul Mawa’s home and suffocated him. To continue the matter as a suicide, he put poison in his mouth and cut some parts with a knife to his throat. After this incident, Meem had a fight with Rifat. Rifat realizes at this point that Meem can also name Jannatul Mawa after her death. For this reason, Rifat planned to kill Meem. Meem was immediately strangled to death and his body was hung on a ceiling fan in the room and Rifat left the house.
Neighbors called Triple Nine around 1.30pm to find Meem’s body wrapped in a veil with a ceiling fan and Jannatul Mawa lying dead in another room. Later, the police recovered the bodies of the two sisters.
Meem and Jannatul Mawa, who were killed in Friday’s incident, took between 10 and 12 people to the police station for questioning. When asked if anyone had a love affair with the two sisters, various topics spoke to them. However, the police confirmed through information technology that Rifat’s number found on Meem’s mobile phone was spoken at different times and even before she arrived at her home before the murder. Later, Rifat was arrested at Babu Khan Mahalla in the center of the city. However, the police are investigating if there was anyone else with Rifat or some other behind-the-scenes incident.
“We have arrested Rifat,” said Uttam Prasad, deputy commissioner of the media wing of the Metropolitan Police. I receive various information from him. He said the whole thing could be announced at a press conference on Sunday (September 22). However, the Kotwali OC Abdur Rashid Police Station declined to comment.
