Elderly man commits suicide in home delivery business Police recovered their bodies from their home on SC Chatterjee Street in Konnagar, Hooghly, West Bengal, on Sunday (January 10) morning.
Citing the locals, the Indian media reports said that Deepak Sarkar and his wife Bhabani Sarkar were in their seventies. They are both retired civil servants. Her son Divyendu Sarkar was highly educated, but recently started a home delivery business. According to police, the couple committed suicide due to mental exhaustion.
According to sources from the Konnagar Police Outpost, Bhabani Sarkar’s body was found on the second-floor porch of the house. Deepak’s body was in the house. Police say Divyendu Sarkar reported to the police station on Sunday morning. The police recovered two bodies and sent them to the hospital for an autopsy.
The Uttarpara police have launched an investigation into the incident. According to the initial investigation, the elderly couple committed suicide from mental exhaustion. Researchers highlight the family crisis behind it.
According to them, Deepak and Bhabani’s son, Divyendu, was good at studies. He didn’t get a job without a master’s degree. Later, Divyendu joined the tourism business. But due to the coronavirus lockdown, it boosted the business. Then the business of giving food from house to house began. Deepak and Bhabani had objections to the home delivery business. Neighbors thought they were mentally exhausted thinking about the boy’s future.
Police believe the couple hanged themselves Saturday night. However, different possibilities are not ruled out. Investigators are questioning Divyendu.
Divyendu’s neighbor, Rishikesh Chatterjee, said: ‘I know the boy is highly educated. Unable to find work, he started a home delivery business. It can hurt your parents’ ego.
