DC said: “As far as we know, Mushtaq Ahmed fell in the bathroom on Thursday night and lost consciousness. Later, Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed was transferred to the Medical College Hospital where the doctors pronounced him dead at night.
Explaining the scope of the investigation committee’s work, he said: “The committee has been established internally to check whether there was negligence in the treatment of Mushtaq Ahmed before his death.”
“In addition, the doctor / specialist will say if there is any other reason for his death after receiving the report from his viceroy.”
Mushtaq was charged under the Digital Security Law after he was arrested at his home in Lalmatia on May 8 last year amid a coronavirus crisis.
Mushtaq Ahmed died on Friday after being arrested under the Digital Security Act and imprisoned for more than six months.
Mushtaq, 53, died in the Kashimpur high-security prison in Gazipur on Thursday night.
However, many are skeptical as there is no clear statement from the authorities on how he died.
Mushtaq’s body was released to his family on Friday after an investigation and an autopsy. The prison authorities filed a case of unnatural death at the Gazipur Sadar Police Station.

Mushtaq, a businessman by profession, was quite active writing online. Along with him, cartoonist Ahmed Kabir Kishore, Didarul Bhuiyan from Rashtrachinta and Minhaj Mannan, former director of the Dhaka Stock Exchange, were also arrested. They were charged with “spreading anti-government propaganda and rumors” in the case.
Following the investigation, the police filed a charge sheet against Mushtaq, Kishore and Didar earlier this month. Although Didarul and Minhaj Mannan obtained bail, Kishore and Mushtaq’s application was rejected several times.
