The company recently conducted a search of the head office in the Nikunj-1 area of the capital and after reviewing its accounts, evidence of tax evasion was found, said the Director General of the Customs Intelligence Department. Moinul Khan reported.

He told bdnews24.com that the restaurant had been evading taxes since 2016. “We are now verifying the accounts provided by the company and the documents obtained from the operation,” he said. A case will be brought before the Rajshahi VAT Commission soon. “

As the two restaurants are located on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway, they are busy all day. Many long-distance buses ply here. There, food is served to passengers.

Bogra-6 Golam MP Mohammad Siraj (GM Siraj) owns SR Group. In addition to restaurants, it does business in a variety of sectors, including transportation, telecommunications, logistics, food processing, and apparel accessories.

According to the VAT Intelligence Department, SR Group’s Food Village Plus in Hatikumrul showed sales of Taka 231 million in three years and six months from February 2016 to July 2020. By contrast, VAT has been paid 2 crore 52 lakh.

But the seized document shows that actual sales during that period were Tk 123.30 crore. Food Village Plus has hidden sales of Rs 100 crore at the moment. 9 crore 44 lakh have escaped here. As this VAT is not paid on time, according to the VAT law, the interest rate at a rate of 2 percent per month is 4 crore 8 lakh Tk.

On the other hand, Food Village of Sherpur, which is owned by the same company, has recorded sales of Tk 236 crore on VAT returns in the same period of three years and five months. The VAT has been 2 crore 51 lakh.

But during the VAT detective operation, the actual sale of Food Village Limited at that time was Tk 122.22 crore. In this case, the VAT evasion is 6 crore 93 crore rupees. 3 crore 99 lakh has been charged as interest.

The two restaurants have hidden their actual sales totaling Tk 198.63 million rupees, while SR Group has evaded VAT by hiding about 82 percent of information in their VAT returns.

The government has been deprived of VAT of Tk 26.43 million rupees from these two restaurants for hiding information in this dishonest way.

Following the tip, VAT detectives conducted a search of SR Group’s headquarters at House 47, Lake Road, Nikunj 1 and seized office documents and computer information.

In addition to the two restaurants, documents from The Great Kebab Factory, Sung Food Garden, SR Travel and Parcel were also seized during the raid. This information is also verified against the corresponding VAT return and the report finalization process is underway.

The operation was carried out by Nazmunnahar Kaiser and Ferdousi Mahbub, the deputy directors of the organization.

If you want to know the allegations of tax evasion, said the General Manager (GM) of the SR Group. Asaduzzaman told bdnews24.com that he had calculated and paid the VAT owed. A sudden operation has been carried out without warning to tarnish the reputation of the organization.

He also said that if there is a case, the matter will be dealt with legally.
