BNP candidate is mayor for the third time after losing to A’League

Nazmul Haque Soni has been elected mayor for the third time. The former president of the BNP Naogaon District was elected three times in a row and scored a treble. He was elected with 29,269 votes.

His closest rival, Awami League district vice president and ship symbol candidate Nirmal Krishna Saha, garnered 24,944 votes. Mahmud Hasan, a district election and re-elected district official, announced the results privately around 9pm on Saturday.

Naogaon Township is known to have been established in 1983. In 1989, it obtained the status of First Level Township. In 1986, more than a hundred mahallas were added to the main city. In 2010, Nazmul Haque Soni was elected first mayor. He was elected mayor for the second time in 2015 and for the third time in 2021.

The number of voters in 9 districts of the municipality is 1 lakh 17,240 people. Voting took place in 332 rooms in 41 polling stations. Where 41 Presidents, 332 Assistant Presidents and 64 Electoral Agents were appointed.

Mayor Nazmul Haque Soni said: “I have been elected by the people three times in a row.” This has been possible thanks to the prayers and support of the citizens. Hopefully I can complete the unfinished business of the promise given to the citizens.
