Awami League leader embezzled hundreds of million rupees from his mother-in-law at gunpoint

Awami League leader Anwar Hossain Rana, aka Keller, 41, has been charged with taking his mother-in-law hostage and tricking her with a firearm at the Nandigram upazila in Bogra.

Anwar Hossain Rana aka Kala is the Acting General Secretary of the Upazila Awami League and a member of the district council. His mother-in-law Delwara Begum filed a complaint against him at the Sadar police station on Thursday night.

His daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanum Anjuara has also been charged in the case. Previously, the four sisters-in-law had written to the Prime Minister and the Bogra Police Superintendent to take action against him.
Delwara Begum, wife of the late Sheikh Sarif Uddin of Katnarpara in Bogra city, mentioned in the affidavit that her son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana and daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara have stayed at her home for the past five years due to their physical illness. She was entrusted with the direction and supervision of various businesses orally due to illness and at their suggestion.

Subsequently, Nazrul Islam, Cam-Cashier, Manager, Sarif Bidi Factory, Hafizar Rahman, Manager, Sarif CNG Limited, and Touhidul Islam, Manager, Delwara Sheikh Sharif Uddin Super Market and Assistant Broker, resorted to fraud, deception and corruption .

They signed stamps, bank checks, FDR and business documents in front of sharp weapons. Later, by creating false documents, he broke the bank’s FDR from June 1, 2015 to September 21, 2020 and embezzled Tk 50 crore. In addition, it has embezzled more than Rs 50 million from companies and banks.

Furthermore, it alleged that the main defendant Anwar Hossain Rana prohibited them from filtering firearms. He kept it a secret for so long due to death threats. On September 21, son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana and his daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara left the house with various pieces of furniture.

On September 24, four sisters-in-law Mahbuba Sarifa Sultana, Nadira Sarifa Sultana, Kaniz Fatema and Touhida Sarifa Sultana filed a complaint against Rana with the Police Superintendent for deceiving their mother.

They also filed a written complaint with the Prime Minister on 18 September alleging that Anwar Hossain Rana, an employee with a salary of Tk 1,500, had embezzled millions of rupees from the organization and defamed the Awami League.

The leader of the Awami League, Rana, claimed that his brother-in-law and sister-in-law had taken his mother-in-law hostage and forced her to give a false statement to the police. Additionally, the siblings are Jamaat-BNP donors; They have continued to conspire with representatives of the local population to tarnish their political image.

Sadar OC Humayun Kabir Police Station said the statement was found; Legal action will be taken after the investigation.
