Mayor of Chandpur Faridganj Township. Mahfuzul Haque has been accused of abusing his wife. His wife Sonia Akhter gave a press conference at Chandpur Press Club on Monday afternoon.
At the press conference, Sonia Akhter said that she married Mahfuzul Haque 10 years ago. They have three children. Mahfuzul was elected mayor of Faridganj municipality five years ago. After being elected mayor, she developed immoral relationships with other women.
Sonia said the mayor tortured her when she protested. He married for the second time in Comilla a few months ago without notifying Sonia. When she protested this incident, Sonia was tortured and expelled from the house.
In addition, Mahfuzul borrowed Tk 780,000 from Sonia’s sister’s son-in-law for contracts and business. Sonia had to endure torture if she wanted the loan money. At the press conference, Sonia Akhter stated that she was experiencing insecurity with her three children and relatives. Sonia said they also threatened to kill her.
Chandpur Press Club (Acting) President Gias Uddin Milon, General Secretary AHM Ahsan Ullah and journalists working in the national and local media were present at the press conference.
