Anwar Hossain Rana is the deputy secretary of the Bogra Nandigram Upazila Awami League and a member of Bogra Zilla Parishad. He is the son of Shamsul Haque de Kolejpara in Nandigram Upazila.

His mother-in-law Delwara Begum lodged a written complaint at the Bogra Sadar police station on Thursday night.

Additionally, four daughters of Delwara have also filed a written complaint with the Bogra Police Superintendent.

Delwara has also charged his daughter Rana’s wife, Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara.

Delwara Begum is the wife of the late Sheikh Sarif Uddin, a prominent Katnarpara businessman in Bogra Sadar.

Delwara alleged that after her husband’s death, she ran her husband’s ‘Sarif Bidi Factory’ business as a managing director. Her five daughters Akila Sarifa Sultana, Mahbuba Sarifa Sultana, Nadira Sarifa Sultana, Kaniz Fatima and Touhida Sarifa Sultana were the directors of this organization.

As a partner, they were also operating two service stations called Sarif CNG Limited in the Shakpala and Charmatha areas of the city and the Delwara-Sheikh Sarif Uddin supermarket on Nawabbari Road, Delwara said.

Delwara Begum alleged that he had given his son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana and his daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana verbal permission to run the business due to physical illness and old age.

She said that at one point, her husband Rana took her signature on various documents, including blank stamps, bank checks and FDRs from business establishments. She then broke the FDR with cash from her own bank account and withdrew over Rs 50 million.

The complaint also said that the daughter and son-in-law embezzled the money from June 1, 2015 to September 21 of this year. Apart from this, at the same time, they embezzled another 50 lakh rupees from the business account and her reputable bank account.

It is alleged that Nazrul Islam, 38, Sarif Bidi factory manager and treasurer, Hafizar Rahman, 50, gas station manager, and Touhidul Islam, 50, supermarket manager assisted them in this endeavor.

Delwara Begum alleged that Anwar Hossain Rana threatened to kill her with a pistol. On September 21, she left home with nothing but cash, bank checks, FDR, and all business documents.

Delwara Begum said that his four daughters Mahbuba Sarifa Sultana, Nadira Sarifa Sultana, Kaniz Fatima and Touhida Sarifa Sultana had filed a written complaint against Anwar Hossain Rana with the district police superintendent on September 24.

According to them, Anwar Hossain Rana has embezzled millions of rupees from the business establishment by taking the sick mother and widow Delwara Begum hostage, deceiving her and using political influence.

Now he has gone into hiding after filing a complaint. Family members of the victim also said they are threatening to withdraw their complaints in secret.

Anwar Hossain Rana was once an employee of his organization, according to a written complaint with the Superintendent of Police.

Bogra Sadar OC Humayun Kabir Police Station said the complaint was received. It will be accepted as demand.
