A housewife named Karima Jahan (35) committed suicide by hanging her husband in the next room. The incident took place in a house on Badda Bazar Road in the capital.

He was found unconscious around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday (December 24) and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where the doctor on duty declared him dead.

Karima, daughter of Kabir Miah of Shariatpur Damudda upazila. She lived with her husband Rafiq Miah and their two-year-old son Yunus on the ground floor of Ruhul Amin’s two-story house on Madhya Badda Bazar Road. Swami Rafiq owns a business called Mother’s Prayer Engineering Workshop next to his house.

Rafiq, the husband of the late Karima, said: “My wife is a bit angry with the child. Later I came back from outside with the baby. When the child’s mother came home and fed me, I told her that I would eat later, but she accidentally closed the door to my room and went into another room and closed the door. Later, when I called the owner and informed him of the matter, he came over and looked out of the adjoining room window and saw Karima hanging from the fan with a towel wrapped around her neck. Later, the owner of the house opened the door to my room for the first time. He then broke down the door to the adjoining room, rescued her from the hanged condition and took her to the hospital, where the doctor pronounced her dead.
