Mahbub Alam Shah, senior district election official and returning official for municipal elections, said his nomination was canceled because his letter of resignation from the municipal vaccinator position was not accepted.

Elections for the Bogra municipalities of Sariakandi, Sherpur and Santahar will be held on January 18 in the second phase. In the other two municipalities, the candidacy of seven mayoral candidates has been validated.

Sariakandi Upazila, Elections Officer and Returning Assistant Municipal Election Officer Sakhawat Hossain, said Matiur Rahman of the Awami League, Sabina Yasmin of BNP, incumbent Mayor Alamgir Shahi Sumon (Awami League rebel), Independent Abdur Rashid Faraji (Awami League rebel) and former Freedom Fighter commander Ali Azgar submitted the nomination.

Matiur Rahman, the vaccinator from the Sariakandi municipality, resigned but was not accepted. For this reason, his nomination work was canceled during the verification and selection on Tuesday. You can appeal within three business days. Although 31 nominations were submitted for the position of general counsel in nine districts, two were rejected. The nomination of 11 candidates for the three reserved council seats is valid.

Alamgir Shahi Sumon, Secretary General of the Upazila Awami League, current mayor of Sariakandi Municipality, was nominated by the party. Subsequently, his candidacy was canceled and Matiur Rahman, deputy secretary of the Upazila Awami League, was made a candidate. However, Mayor Sumon submitted his nomination as an independent candidate.

The local Awami League leader, activist and candidate whose nomination was canceled, Matiur Rahman, said they would appeal the matter. He resigned at the right time and in the right way. He hopes to get his candidacy back.

The returning officer, Mahbub Alam Shah, said the nomination would be withdrawn on December 29 and the symbol would be assigned on December 30. Voting will take place on January 16 in the municipalities of Sariakandi and Santahar by EVM system and in the municipality of Sherpur by ballot. Preparations for the elections are underway.
