The United States has imposed sanctions on Turkey for the purchase of S-400 missile defense systems from Russia. The United States has been threatening sanctions for the past year since the S-400 was purchased.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement: “The United States has repeatedly told Turkey’s top leaders that if they buy the S400 system, it will cause concern for US military technology and the safety of its officials.” Russia will enter the Turkish defense forces and the defense industry. Pompeo added: “Turkey has an alternative. NATO member countries use the same system. However, Turkey has decided to continue collecting and testing the S-400.
He described Turkey as an important ally of the United States and a partner in regional security.
He said the United States wants to maintain historical ties with Turkey and maintain military cooperation. But to do that, the S-400 barrier must be removed as soon as possible.
On Monday, the US Treasury Department imposed sanctions on Ismail Demir, head of Turkey’s Presidency of Defense Industries, and three of his colleagues.
