Akbar Jeb, a Pakistani diplomat, cannot be Pakistan’s ambassador to Saudi Arabia. The Saudi administration did not like him because the Arabic meaning of the name Akbar Jeb was an insult.
Previously, Akbar Jeb had served as ambassador to the United States, India and South Africa. He was also the Pakistani ambassador to Canada. Even Akbar Jeb was the director of the Pakistani Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
But the 55-year-old diplomat’s name is ugly in Arabic. The Arabic meaning of the word Akbar Jeb is ‘giant penis’. People in Saudi Arabia won’t even want to use that name.
Akbar’s name is always seen in Arabic and other languages. But the pockets are not kept with anyone’s name. Although this word is in Urdu, in Arabic it refers to the male gender.
The Saudis have rejected Akbar Jeb as ambassador to avoid this word in public. According to a report by the Arab Times, as a third country, Saudi Arabia opposed keeping Akbar Jeb as ambassador. Previously, the United Arab Emirates and Bahrain rejected it in name only.
Ahmed Al-Omran, a critic of Saudi culture, said it was hard to imagine that someone’s name could be a problem, especially at this level. But I understand why the government reacted in that way.
He added that he has crossed the cultural red line. I don’t think the media dares to publish such a name. So while he’s here, the media will face issues with his name and this will make it difficult to work with him. It will also be embarrassing for Pakistan.
