At Patharghata, in Barguna, a 22 kg whale fish was sold for 2.46,500 Tk. The price of fish per kg is 11,250 rupees. The whale was caught in a prison net in Sundarbans on Friday (November 13). The fish was brought to Patharghata BFDC Fishery Ghat in Barguna on Saturday morning (November 14), the second largest wholesale fish landing center in the country. Then a fish wholesaler named Yusuf Mia bought the fish from Sagir Mia’s warehouse.
Grocer Sagir Hossain said a fisherman named Sukumar Bahadur from the Sundarbans brought the fish to his yard on Saturday morning. At that time he raised the price of fish to four and a half lakh rupees. The fish was sold through a public auction at 10 a.m. Among the 13 participants in the auction, a wholesaler named Yusuf Mia bought the 22 kg vol fish for Tk 2.47,500. As a result, the price of fish per kg is 11,250 rupees.
Yusuf Mia said: “I bought the fish because there is a great demand for fish in the international market.” I will have a business of 30 to 35 lakhs in fish.
He added that the fish will be shipped to Dhaka at night. From there it will be processed and exported abroad.
