Sudhanshu Shekhar Bhadra, Director General (DG) of the Postal Department, will be sent to compulsory license from Wednesday in connection with the irregularities and corruption in the project Tk 541 crore ‘Post E-Center for Rural Community’. The order was issued by the Department of Posts and Telecommunications on Monday after a preliminary investigation found evidence of corruption.
On October 13, Sudhanshu Shekhar was granted one month’s leave. In early September, a meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology recommended his dismissal for corruption. He has been absent from work ever since.
Sudhanshu Shekhar’s irregularities and corruption were highlighted in a report titled ‘Theft’ from the Dakar Director General on 25 September. According to an investigation by the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology, the Tk 541 crore project of the postal department has been affected by significant irregularities and corruption. Rs 170 million from the project was not found. Although an account of Tk 360.65 crore has been found, the equipment purchased with that money has not yet been used.
The Post Office under the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and Information and Communications Technology implemented the ‘Post E-Center for Rural Community’ project from 2012 to 2016 to provide digital services to people in remote areas. The sources said Sudhanshu Shekhar did not come to the office after appearing at the meeting of the standing parliamentary committee on September 23. Subsequently, on October 13, the Department of Posts and Telecommunications granted him a month’s leave and an additional director general was given the responsibility of running the postal department.
