The police headquarters has formed a three-member investigative committee to identify the accomplices of SI Akbar Hossain Bhuiyan, in charge of the outpost in connection with the death of Raihan Ahmed, a young man, at the Bandarbazar police post in Sylhet.
The three-member investigation committee was formed by an order signed by the Additional DIG (D & PS-1) Rezaul Haque of the police headquarters.
The other two members of the committee headed by AIG (Crime Analysis) Mohammad Ayub from the Police Headquarters are the Sylhet District Police Additional Superintendent of Police, Mahbubul Alam, and the SMP Additional Deputy Commissioner Munadir Islam Chowdhury. They have been asked to report within 5 business days.
Sohail Rana, AIG (media) at police headquarters, said the committee would investigate whether any member of the police was responsible for Akbar’s escape. The investigation committee is scheduled to begin work on Wednesday morning.
Raihan died at Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet on October 11 after being tortured at the police station. Raihan is the son of the late Rafiqul Islam of Neharipara in Akhalia, Sylhet. He used to work in a doctor’s office at the city’s Rikabibazar stadium market.
On the night of October 12, Raihan’s wife filed a case with the SMP Kotwali Police Station under the Death in Police Custody Act charging unidentified persons.
