The leader of the Awami League is accused of embezzling hundreds of million rupees by taking his mother-in-law hostage.

Bogra Nandigram League Acting Upazila Awami General Secretary and District Council Member Anwar Hossain Runner, 41, has been accused of embezzling hundreds of millions of rupees by holding his mother-in-law hostage with a firearm. His mother-in-law Delwara Begum filed a complaint against him at the Sadar Police Station on Thursday night (October 1). Her daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanum Anjuara has also been charged in the case. Previously, the four sisters-in-law had written to the Prime Minister and the Bogra Police Superintendent to take action against Rana.

However, the leader of the Awami League, Rana, claimed that his brothers and sisters-in-law had taken his mother-in-law hostage and forced her to give a false statement to the police. Additionally, the siblings are Jamaat-BNP donors. They have continued to conspire with representatives of the local population to tarnish their political image.

Sadar OC Humayun Kabir Police Station said on Friday (October 2) that a statement had been received. Legal action will be taken after the investigation.

Rana’s mother-in-law, Delwara Begum, wife of the late Sheikh Sarif Uddin of Katnarpara in Bogra, said in a statement that her son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana and daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara had stayed at her home for the past five years due to your physical illness. She gave them the responsibility of running various businesses orally in case of illness and at their suggestion. Subsequently, Nazrul Islam, manager and cashier of Sarif Bidi Factory, Hafizar Rahman, manager of Sarif CNG Limited and Touhidul Islam, manager of Delwara-Sheikh Sharif Uddin Super Market and assistant broker resorted to fraud, deception and corruption. They signed stamps, bank checks, FDR and business documents in front of sharp weapons. Later, by creating false documents, he broke the bank’s FDR from June 1, 2015 to September 21, 2020 and embezzled Tk 50 crore. In addition, it has embezzled a further Rs 50 million of Tk from companies and banks.

Furthermore, it alleged that the main defendant, Anwar Hossain Rana, alias Kala, seized the firearms and prohibited them from doing so. He kept the matter a secret for so long due to death threats. On September 21, the accused son-in-law Anwar Hossain Rana alias Kala and his daughter Akila Sarifa Sultana Khanam Anjuara left the house with various pieces of furniture.
