The Investigations Office (PBI) arrested the murderer of Jannatul Ferdous Laboni, a passenger in the cabin of the Parabat-11 motorboat, using images from CCTV cameras and information technology.
PBI claimed at a press conference that he had strangled his wife Laboni to death over an argument while sitting in the boat.
Police Superintendent Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter at a press conference at PBI’s office on Rupatli Ukilbari Road in Barisal Nagar at 10:30 am on Wednesday.
The arrested Moniruzzaman Chowdhury (34) is the son of Abdus Shahid from the Kapasia area of Gazipur. He lived in the government residential area of Darul Salam Main Abul Kalam Road, Mirpur-1, Dhaka.
From there, PBI members from the Barisal district arrested him on Tuesday evening with the help of PBI members from Dhaka Metro (North).
Humayun Kabir said the body of an unidentified woman was recovered from the unique cabin No. 391 of the Parabat-11 motorboat that arrived at the Barisal river port from Dhaka on the morning of September 14. The cabin boy of the launch went to the cabin to clean up and saw the body of an unidentified woman lying on the bed with the door open.
The matter was immediately reported to the naval police. They recovered the body and sent it to the morgue of the Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital. Based on the inquiries and other evidence, various units of law enforcement agencies were named in the investigation after the matter was initially confirmed as murder.
At the beginning of the PBI investigation, the unidentified woman may have known that she was Jannatul Ferdous Laboni. Her village house is in the Adampur area of the Bhanga Police Station in Faridpur. She lived in Pallabi, Mirpur, Dhaka.
PBI is looking for the person who identified himself with the woman who was identified by looking at the CCTV camera images. At one point, the identified person was arrested in Mirpur with the help of information technology.
