A woman named Marjia Kanta (25) from Belab upazila in Narsingdi has been missing for the past two years. She went home to India with her husband. Since then no news has been received from him. Almost two years later, the Narsingdi Police Investigation Office (PBI) says Marjia was killed and her body disappeared by her husband. The information was given at a press conference on Saturday afternoon (September 5) by the Police Superintendent of the Narsingdi Police Investigation Bureau (PBI). Enayet Hossain.
He said that housewife Marjia was taken from Belab in Narsingdi to Kuakata in Patuakhali for the purpose of premeditated murder. He was strangled to death in a room at the Al Medina residential hotel. Later, her body was hidden under the bed and her husband Shahidul Islam and his accomplice fled. Subsequently, the hotel authorities threw the body into the sea to avoid problems with the police.
Five people, including the victim’s husband and two owners of a residential hotel in Kuakata, have been arrested in the incident.
Among those arrested in the murder case is Kanta’s husband, Shahidul Islam, aka Sagar (38) from the Roumari area of Kurigram, the son of his accomplice Shahinur Islam, Md. Mamun Mia (28), owner of Hotel Al Medina in the Kuakata area of Patuakhali. Delwar Hossain (44), her brother Anwar Hossain (38) and the hotel manager Amir Hossain (38).
The deceased was identified as Marjia Kanta, daughter of Sehrab Hossain from Birbhagber village in Belab upazila of Narsingdi. She owned a business called Kanta Beauty Parlor in Ashulia, Savar. She has been missing since she left home on September 21, 2016 for a trip to India.
According to PBI, Shahidul Islam Sagar from Kurigram married salon businessman Marjia Kanta based on his identity. Margia may discover that Sagar had more than one wife after the marriage. This caused a fight between them. In October 2016, her husband Shahidul Islam took her from Marjia’s home in Narsingdi’s Belab upazila for a trip to India. He was first taken to Ashulia’s home in Savar in the capital for premeditated murder. From there they left for India in preparation for Shariatpur. From there, an attempt was made to kill Marjia by telling her to show the erosion of the river with her colleague Mamun. However, when that plan failed, they went from Shariatpur to a residential hotel called Al Medina in the name of showing him Kuakata Beach in Patuakhali. In the same hotel room, her husband Shahidul and his accomplice Mamun Marjia were strangled to death and their bodies were hidden under the bed. The hotel authorities subsequently dumped the body into the Kuakata Sea to avoid trouble with the police. Previously, Marjia’s body was not found in the hotel room, but local police recovered luggage, clothing, a knife and some other belongings from unidentified persons and kept a GD in the incident.

The defendants were detained with the help of information technology while they investigated the case presented in connection with the disappearance of Marjia Kanta. The investigation later revealed shocking information about the murder. The detained defendants have also given confessional statements in court, said the PBI Police Superintendent.
