Watch Tesla Begin Construction Work in Gigafactory Texas on Drone Video

Tesla has already begun construction work on its new Gigafactory Texas site in Austin, and a new drone video shows initial progress.

After months of going through the process to get local government approval, Tesla announced this week that it selected a site outside of Austin to build its next Gigafactory in the United States.

As we’ve been reporting, the automaker plans to move forward on this project quickly, and work is already underway on the 2,000-acre site.

Tesla has not offered official deadlines for the production of its various vehicle programs to be built at the new factory, but we have heard some remarkably aggressive deadlines.

A first drone video shot yesterday was released today showing a bunch of heavy machinery being moved to the site to prepare the ground for construction:

The property is gigantic and is Tesla’s largest site to date for a new manufacturing facility.

We can see that Tesla is starting to work on the side of the road closest to the current operations of the concrete plant that are still on the ground.

As Tesla confirmed earlier this week, they plan to build Model 3, Model Y, Cybertruck, and Tesla Semi trucks at the Gigafactory.

Electrek previously reported that Tesla plans to try to quickly roll out a Model Y general assembly line at the new factory.

A source told Electrek that the automaker expects to have it operational by year-end, which would require construction in the coming months.

The taking of Electrek

To be fair, we’re only seeing some land moving here, but the video is still great to give us a better idea of the landscape here.

We can see why Elon wants to make it an “ecological paradise”.

Also, I can see great potential for Tesla to expand on location, even though they already plan many vehicle programs on location.

I can’t wait to see the final results.
