The U.S. Postal Service announced Friday that it has launched a new website to help Americans navigate mail-in-votes.
The new page provides general “FAQ” information, guidance for finding election pages for states, and other useful links.
The Postal Service recognizes that many states are choosing to expand mail-in voting options in the upcoming elections and that there is likely to be a significant increase in demand among mail clients to participate in those elections using of the post, “the agency wrote in a news release.
The site comes in the midst of a service crisis and as President Trump, along with his postmaster general, Louis DeJoy, is facing growing anger over USPS management.
Trump has repeatedly vowed to vote by mail, claiming it would make the most “fraudulent” presidential election in American history.
He has said he will withhold additional funding. Democrats have asked the postal service not to make widespread post-voting during the pandemic.
DeJoy, who took over in May, testified before a House committee on Friday, denying widespread criticism that he had removed mailboxes, cut overtime and withdrawn post-sorting machines in an attempt to disrupt mass mail-in voting .
DeJoy acknowledged reports that email delivery times have decreased, but blamed the slow service on the coronavirus.
He said the USPS would prioritize ballot papers over first-class mail to ensure they reach election officials on time.
“Our employees are experiencing the COVID pandemic as well,” DeJoy testified, “and we have a major issue in the availability of workers in many, many parts of the country, leading to delays in delivery of mail.”
