Upper Manhattan, State Island and Long Island leading to COVID-19 sanctions: Cuomo

Parts of Upper Manhattan, Staten Island and Long Island are set to return to the restricted COVID-19 zone this week, government Andrew Cuomo warned on Sunday.

Targeted areas have recently been plagued with alarmingly rising infection rates.

“We have a lot of communities that are on the alert track,” Kuomo said at a press briefing. “Right now … unless they can dramatically change the route of infection, this week, they will go to those areas.

“Parts of Staten Island will go into the Orange Region. Parts of Staten Island will move to the Red Zone at current rates. ”

“Staten Island is a serious problem,” Cuomo said – as the average seven-day infection rate last week was 4.5 percent, the highest in the city.

“Staten Island is also a problem in terms of overbirding hospitals, and we are taking up the issue of a hospital capacity on Staten Island, which we will have to deal with in the coming days.”

Nassau and Suffolk counties on Long Island, meanwhile, will “move Upper Manhattan into the yellow zone,” unless the numbers change sharply, the governor added, without elaborating on how big Apple’s neighbors will be affected.

Yellow zone, minimum restricted, average in-person rest .Run dining, limited to four people per table and overall indoor capacity 25%. New York City restaurants are already at the 25 percent indoor limit.

The governor last week also ordered liquor-licensed bars and rest restaurants to close at 10pm every night in an attempt to curb the rising rate of infection.

Under the yellow-zone restrictions, indoor and outdoor gatherings include a maximum of 25 people – although the governor has already issued an order exceeding this limit, the groups cannot exceed 10.

Worship houses in the yellow zone will be at 50 per cent capacity.

Schools may remain open, but 20 percent of staff and 20 percent of students at the school will undergo mandatory testing, Kumo said.

Public schools in New York City are currently closed due to coronavirus growth, according to Mayor Bill de Blasio last week.

In the Orange Zone, indoor dining in restaurants will be suspended, while professionals will shut down non-essential and high-risk gyms, such as gyms and hair salons. Worship houses will be below 33 percent inside the house, while gatherings will be limited to 10 people.

Cuomo said schools would be remote if schools did not comply with the mandatory testing plan.

Under the most restricted designation, red, there will also be a ban on outdoor dining in restaurants, which will be for pick-up and delivery only. All non-essential businesses will also be closed, and churches will go to a maximum of 10 individual worshipers.

Schools will not accept the mandatory testing plan until they go remote.
