“As we return to work and more people pass through the airport, we like to know that our employees are safe and, by default, our customers are safer,” said a United employee named Laura, who works in airport operations. “I feel much safer coming to work knowing that everyone who entered the complex has been tested,” echoed a United staff member named Sylvester, who works in technical operations at SFO.

Before resuming flight service to dozens of U.S. and Canadian destinations in July, United recently beefed up its passenger safety protocols with the implementation of self-assessment health questionnaires. At check-in, customers will be asked to complete a “Ready to Fly” checklist as part of the airline’s CleanPlus initiative.

Amid the pandemic, passengers must review a 13-item checklist and “accept” that none of them apply, such as cough, fever, shortness of breath, or other COVID-19-related symptoms. Guests should also confirm that they have not been diagnosed with the virus in the last 21 days or that they have had contact with someone who has had symptoms in the last 14 days.

As part of the increased security measures, passengers will also be required to accept and wear a mask while on board.

At this time, temperature controls are not required for passengers as part of the “Ready to Fly” initiative.
