Ubisoft has publicly pledged to keep prices for new games released on next-gen consoles this fall at $ 60, the company said in a profit call on Wednesday. That differs from the strategy of video game publisher Take-Two Interactive and its subsidiary 2K Games, which plan to charge an additional $ 10 for next-gen versions of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X of the upcoming NBA 2K21.
“We plan to have the same price as the previous generation of consoles,” were the company’s words, although only in reference to its list of new releases. While this is the first time Ubisoft has said out loud that it won’t raise prices for next-gen games released this holiday season, its Xbox preorder pages for games like Assassin’s Creed Valhalla and Watch Dogs Legion He already indicated that prices would remain the same.
Big news: Ubisoft said in today’s earnings call that its next-gen games this fall will be priced the same as current-gen games ($ 60). Take-Two had announced that NBA 2K21 will cost $ 70 on PS5 and Xbox Series X.

For example, a GameStop pre-order for Watch Dogs Legion For Xbox One, which comes with a free upgrade to the Xbox Series X version thanks to Microsoft’s Smart Delivery initiative, it costs just $ 59.99. Sony and its editorial partners have yet to release preorder pages for PS5 launch games or cross-platform releases.
What is unclear at the moment is whether Ubisoft plans to increase prices. It makes sense that the publisher will keep its prices static this fall, when many of its games are designed as multi-generation titles that will launch on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X. But in the future, after the adoption of the Next generation consoles becomes stronger, we can see that publishers decide to increase the prices of games designed or, at least, optimized for newer devices, as 2K Games intends to do.
