Controversial Chinese video app Zynn has returned to iOS and Android after being booted from both platforms after reports of plagiarism and complaints about a pay-per-view system that a media watchdog described as a “pyramid scheme.”
The app returned to the Google Play Store on July 2 and the Apple App Store on July 16, but users are frustrated by the changes it has made, particularly in the rewards system that helped Zynn get to it. the top of the app download charts earlier this year. The app previously offered users cash or gift cards to simply sign up, watch videos, and recommend friends. Now this cash system has been replaced by a “Zynncheers” point system. And what are Zynncheers points for? No one knows, including Zynn.
The company introduced the system in June and appears to have changed any cash users have accumulated but not yet redeemed for points. These points are a “type of credit that represents the level of community activity,” says Zynn, for which users will be able to receive “benefits.” But what these benefits are and how they can be redeemed is unclear.
On social media, Zynn users have been responding to the company’s posts to vent their frustrations, complaining that Zynncheers’ primary function seems to be to prevent them from collecting the money they had previously accumulated.
“What are Zynn’s cheers for? I just wonder hahaha, ”says one user. Another question: “Can zynncheers be useful now? I need money.”
In the Google Play store, the reviews are more specific in their complaints. “The only and only reason 90% of people downloaded this app is for money,” says one user on July 18. “But since they added zynncheers, the app has become useless … They said they are finding uses for zynncheers, but it’s been a long time and still worth nothing.”
Zynn says it is working on developing Zynncheers, but has not offered solid updates on the scheme in the past few weeks. We contact the company to request more information and we will update this story if we receive a response.
Meanwhile, users are leaving the app or moving to new pastures. In a Facebook group where Zynn users previously shared referral codes and exchanged tips on how to accumulate cash quickly, people lament the app’s demise or announce new video apps that promise their own cash reward schemes to get rich quickly.
“I invite you to join Cash Crates, a site that allows you to earn money with social networks. I just won $ 54.00 and you can too! Sign up today for a $ 25 bonus! says a post. Another user replies, “Are you stupid?”
