Earlier this year, OnePlus set a goal to have its devices Android Enterprise Recommended (AER). Months after setting this goal, Google officially announced the OnePlus 8 as part of the program.
In February 2018, Google launched the Android Enterprise Recommended Program as a way to create a list of certified devices that are recommended for companies to roll out to their employees.
As of this writing, 189 devices are AER certified – and the OnePlus 8 now joins this list. To be included in the application, AER devices must meet certain software update requirements, based on whatever Android OS they have. Certain hardware requirements must also be met, including offering 8+ hours of battery life, having at least 2 GB of RAM, and having a minimum of 32 GB of storage.
The OnePlus 8 more than meets these hardware requirements; the flagship device has a maximum of 12 GB RAM, up to 256 GB storage, and a lot of battery life due to its 4,300mAh battery. OnePlus has also promised three years of two-month security updates as well as two-year major OS updates.
At present, only the OnePlus 8 appears to be AER certified. We reached out to OnePlus to see if the OnePlus 8 Pro and OnePlus Nord will also receive AER certification in the future.
