Motorola’s unlocked Edge smartphone is now available to pre-order before the July 31 launch, the company announced today. Additionally, the company announced that for “limited time,” it will offer the Edge for $ 499.99, instead of the originally announced price of $ 699.99.
It is unclear how long Motorola will offer the $ 200 discount, though it doesn’t appear to be considering a permanent price drop at the moment.
The Motorola Edge is a slightly watered-down version of the flagship Edge $ 999, with a similar 6.7-inch “edge” screen design, but with a Snapdragon 765 processor, 6GB of RAM, a 4,500mAh battery, and no wireless charging. (The Edge Plus, on the other hand, has double the RAM, a larger 5,000 mAh battery, and a Snapdragon 865.) It also has 256 GB of internal storage. The triple camera array has also been downgraded, compared to the Edge Plus, with a 64-megapixel primary lens (instead of the highly-touted Edge Plus 108-megapixel sensor), among other changes.
Lastly, Edge will only support 5G internet below 6GHz (not Edge Plus’ mmWave support), though it will be available unlocked, rather than limited to Verizon only.
The Motorola Edge is available to pre-order now from Best Buy, B&H Photo, Amazon and Motorola.
