Two weeks ago, the Bears were left to die after their six-game losing streak dropped to a record 5–7. Now they have a clear path to play.
The loss of the Cardinals for 49 on Saturday makes it relatively easy for the Bears to earn a wild card in the NFCA.
If the Bears win their remaining two games (today at Xanville, next week against the Packers), they are in the playoffs. They are a huge favorite against the Jaguars. Next week’s game will look a tough one, but it’s likely the Packers will already be able to take advantage of the home-field in the NFC playoffs and give Aaron Rogers and other keys a break.
Even if the Bears lose one of their remaining two games, they make the playoffs if they win one game and the Cardinals lose to the Rams next week. Which means the Bears now have the potential to make the postseason, perhaps with general manager Ryan Paes, coach Matt Nagy and perhaps quarterback Mitchell Trubiski, who left Chicago in 2021, not a thing of the previous oversight.
