Tesla is currently shipping the first 7,000 May-in-China Model Dell 3 cars to Europe – the first Tesla vehicles to be exported from China.
As we reported earlier, when Tesla first announced plans to build vehicles in China, it said it would supply domestic demand in the country.
Last month, reports coming out of China indicated that Tesla has changed its mind and is now planning to start exporting In-China Model 3 vehicles to other markets.
This was confirmed earlier this month when Tesla announced that it would send in-China Model 3 vehicles to Europe.
Today, Tesla held an event to celebrate the start of exports from China.
This paper reports today (Chinese translation):
“On October 26, an event was held at the Tesla Giga Factory Shanghai for Chinese-made vehicles exported to Europe. Approximately 7,000 Chinese-made Model 3 vehicles will be shipped tomorrow for export to the European market. They will arrive at Belgian ports later this month and are sold in dozens of countries, including Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Portugal, Switzerland and Sweden. ”
The executive deputy mayor of Shanghai was present at the ceremony and said that at present the Tesla Giga Factory can produce 3,500-4,000 vehicles per week at Shanghai.
Tesla chief in China Xu Xiaotong said at the event:
“It is 10 months before the delivery of the first batch of Model 3 made in China today. The Model 3 made in China will now not only be able to supply the Chinese market on a large scale, but also pass all the certification requirements for entry into the European market. ”
While the first shipment is thought to be about 7,000 vehicles, it is not clear what the frequency and volume of the shipment will be.
Take the electric
This shipment is bigger than the personal expectation of the goods.
Tesla will now join many other automakers such as Polystar and BMW in the manufacture of electric vehicles in China for the European market.
What worries me the most is that Tesla was considered to be in excess of sufficient demand to sell vehicles manufactured at Gigafactory Shanghai in China.
However, it seems that the production ramp is going very well, and it has now surpassed the demand.
I think the Chinese market is currently waiting for Tesla’s Model Y and the demand for the Model 3 at about 100,000 units per year could be met.
