Suresh Raina has said that he “does not want to take a chance” in the UAE as the situation at the Chennai Super Kings camp “does not look good” after 13 troopers tested positive for the Covid-19 last week. With three weeks to go before the IPL starts, Raina said he thought of returning home to his family and decided to return to India.

However, the team’s CEO Kasi Vishwanath said in a Super Kings tweet that Raina would be unavailable for the rest of the IPL season for “personal reasons”, although the “situation” was that Raina did not rule out the opportunity to return to Dubai. Well done.

Meanwhile, Super Kings owner N Srinivasan told PTI that whether Raina returns or not will be up to the team management – namely Vishwanathan, captain MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming – and not Srinivasan himself. “Look, please understand that this is not my domain,” PTI quoted him as saying. “We have a team, we have a franchise but we don’t have players.
