After a long period without new Star Trek on television, fans are now dealing with an avalanche of new shows from their favorite franchise, thanks to Discovery and Picard as well as the next Bottom covers and Strange new worlds. Unfortunately, all of these shows cater to a more adult audience, leaving out younger fans who want to explore the galaxy. Last year, CBS announced that there would be an animated Star Trek show for younger audiences, and today we finally put a name (and logo) on the latest episode of the popular franchise: Star Trek: Prodigy.
The CG animated show will premiere next year on Nickelodeon, and will revolve around the adventures of a group of teenagers taking over an old Starfleet ship and, of course, embarking on adventures. To get an idea of the tone, it’s best to see who is running the show: Kevin and Dan Hageman, the duo behind Netflix. Trollhunters cartoon. Alex Kurtzman will continue to be involved as an executive producer as part of his five-year contract managing everything related to Trek for CBS Television Studios. It will be animated by Eye Animation Productions, the company’s new animation arm.
