As part of its hard pivot for Podcast King, Spotify is now bringing video podcasts to its platform, complete with seamless multitasking support if you prefer to listen instead.

Video podcasting support will start with just a handful of Spotify programs the company said Tuesday including Basketball Book 2.0, Fantasy footballers, he Misfits Podcast, H3 Podcast, he Morning toast, Higher Learning with Van Lathan and Rachel Lindsay, and the Rooster Tooth Podcast. The feature will be available to free and premium users in all markets where podcasts are supported.

The good thing about Spotify video podcasts is that they will work like regular podcasts if you decide halfway through that you prefer to do something else on your device. If you are watching a video but quit the application, it will continue to play in the background while you search on your phone or tablet. It will even play if you lock your device, if you decide you want to continue listening while working on something completely different.

Personally, as someone with a very short attention span who already does this in the browser with YouTube, I can appreciate the desire to multitask with the option to return to a video.

Spotify added that people can still download the audio from those podcasts to listen offline as well. AND, As always, this is the best option for podcasting on the move and off wifi so you don’t mess with your data plan.
