Sources – MRI shows Teddy Bridgewater’s knee exactly, but the condition is uncertain; Christian McFrey probably out Sunday

CHARLOTTE, NC – The Carolina Panthers quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions could be without starting Teddy Bridgewater and without running back Christian McFarlane.

An MRI showed no structural damage to Bridgewater’s right knee, a source told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, however, Mortensen was told the quarterback was experiencing pain and swelling, which left his condition uncertain Sunday.

Bridgewater was a starter for the Minnesota Vikings when the knee was not severely damaged in 2016.

Carolina coach Matt Rule on Friday expressed optimism that McFarlane would miss a single game after Kansas City suffered a late shoulder injury in a 33-31 loss to Kansas City on Nov. 8.

However, a league source told ESPN’s Adam Shafter Panthers (3-7) that McCaffrey is still preparing to miss multiple games.

If Bridgewater can’t play, the Panthers will go with PJ and Walker or Will Gear. V Temple Tax, who plays for Rule at Temple and spent time in the XFL before signing with Carolina, was backed up on Sunday. He completed 2-of-a-pass attempts for 12 yards after Jason Pierre-Paul injured Bridgewater on the sack, with 5:24 left.

Girir has been active in five games, including four of the first five, but has not played down this season. He started the final two games last year and went 0-2.

Mike Davis will continue to start for the Panthers, if McCaffrey can’t go, but on Sunday he suffered a finger injury that set him apart for a few plays.
