Sam Darnold of Jets has stayed away from In-N-Out

Sam Darnold’s key to getting in shape in training camp is easy: avoid the double-double.

‘I make sure I do not eat what I want to eat. I do not have an In-N-Out every day and make sure I eat good food, ”Darnold said on Wednesday. ‘Putting the right things in my body, that’s an enormous part of it. I work out four or five days a week. I do not have to worry about how much work I put into it. It’s really about what I put into my body. ‘

The 23-year-old said he concentrated on a few things in his workouts this entire season.

“It makes sure I do everything I can to make my lower body as strong as possible and make sure my upper body stays loose, I think because of lack of a better term,” Darnold said. “Make sure I stay strong. I want to make sure my arm is ready to go. Keep my arm in shape and keep my core straight. ”

Darnold does not have to worry about In-N-Out in New Jersey. When he returns to California, he can pay a visit. He gave his go-to order: “Number 1, grilled onions, Neopolitan shake. Easy. “

Coaches and teammates say they see a difference in Darnold in Year 3 of the NFL and Year 2 in Adam Gase’s offense.

“Sam is a lot nicer,” Le’Veon Bell recalled. ‘You can just tell how he talks to boys. It’s more of a stench to him. … He knows he can hold boys more responsible because he will not messaging. Even with coach Gase he can name something and Sam corrects him now. Sam gets to the point where he really understands the crime. It will be fun. I’m excited. ‘

Offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Dowell Loggains said Darnold’s grip on the offense is clear.

‘The biggest thing I see in him is command. He can speak with more confidence, ”said Loggains. ‘Last year he learned it. We must now see command from him to be an extension of the coaches. ‘

The Jets increased practice on Wednesday, according to NFL guidelines. They could do some field work with helmets on. It is similar to the Phase 2 practices they have in the spring. They will do more of that on Thursday and then move on to an OTA-type practice on Friday where they can do a little more on the field. They can place the pads on Monday and have a normal training camp exercise.
