♦ With the launch of the third generation of the Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway models, Dacia has undergone the biggest transformation since its relaunch by Renault, and what was at stake was not only the platform, but also the design, to to fill the market with the French brand.
Dacia should be a competitive, simple but modern brand that comes with bold design in an ever-changing automotive market, considers Erde Tungaa, lead exterior designer at Groupe Renault. Erde Tungaa, originally from Mongolia, is the one who designed the first and second generation of the Duster SUV, both with very important volumes registered at European level. He trained as a designer at the time of Patrick Le Quement, a former Groupe Renault designer, has a degree in history and psychology and speaks five foreign languages.
“I have worked for the Dacia brand since the first generation of Duster. I also worked on Renault models, but I like the idea behind the Dacia brand. It is very good, it is what a car should be for the people. I defended this idea “Said Erde Tungaa in an interview with ZF during the static presentation in Paris of the new Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway.
The transition from the old Logan platform launched in 2004 to Renault’s new platform, CMF-B, allows the third generation of Logan, Sandero and Sandero Stepway models to present technologies unimaginable until recently in Dacia models.
If in 2004 the gap between Dacia and Renault models was almost two generations, that is, 16 years, now this gap has narrowed to no more than 4 with the third generation.
“With the third generation, people have changed, we have changed and we want to give them what they want in the context of change because car design is no longer the same. In this context, we must also change Dacia, but in a good way. The image should be forceful, but simple with a modern attitude. With the third generation, we bet on the element of modernity, in keeping the lines simple, clean, with all the elements of a hatchback in Sandero. In the case of Logan and Sandero Stepway, for example, we see the quality of detail in terms of design and precision, including the light signature, ”explained Erde Tungaa.
