Xiaomi posted a response to the information in a Forbes article.
It should be specified from the beginning that most companies collect information on how the phone is used (what about Google, Facebook that have led to an artistic level follow-up, it is enough to talk about something with a friend who already when access is waiting for your targeted ads).
I don’t know if you remember, but there are some boxes that you check when starting a new smartphone or rebooting. There are also some points marked when you log into your Mi, Huawei, Samsung account etc.
Forbes has found that Xiaomi also collects URLs in incognito mode in the browser (in theory, nobody should have access to the sites visited by this method, in addition to the URLs, it also maintains the words searched by Google and DuckDuckGo).
The data is sent to servers in Singapore and Russia, to web domains registered in Beijing.
I took information from Xiaomi’s response (they came with statements about statements, a sign that they are upset by what Forbes has highlighted and that they are doing their best to make a damage control).
- Xiaomi collects information related to user activity and here refers to system information, preferences, data on the use of the interface, memory usage, performance, errors;
- Data synchronization is performed for those who have My account activated and have chosen to accept this report;
- URLs are saved for …, find slow loading web pages (Here I laughed). They did not provide an explanation of the words used in the search process.
Find more details here. How encryption is performed was analyzed and there are significant leaks (encryption itself, bad anonymous data, etc.).
I think they will collect feedback and things will improve in the future. 🙂
